The czar of Russia has died and a power vacuum has developed. This period in the late 16th and early 17th century has been called "The Time of Troubles." There are many impostors who claim to the right to rule, but there's only one heir, the Czarina Kseniya Godunova. This film aims the poetic portray an abandoned town, called Pyramiden, surrounded by eternal ice, far away in the arctic. An amnesic time traveller gets lost on a glacier nearby and arrives at the emptied out setllement. Some isolated people living actually in the ghost town hire him as a chronicler. But the time traveller cannot understand the local rules and successlessly tries to escape until he understands that he is already in the realm of the dead ones... The story adapts strangs by Hermann Kasack's romance "The City Beyond the River" and the film integrates arctic ambience music and sound by Biosphere.
